The Return-to-Duty Process

SAP Evaluation
Employee is evaluated by a DOT-qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP)

Treatment Completion
Employee completes the education or treatment program recommended by SAP

Return-to-Duty Test
Negative drug and/or alcohol test required before returning to safety-sensitive duties

Follow-Up Testing
Minimum of 6 unannounced tests in the first 12 months, as directed by SAP
DOT-Regulated Employees
- Must be evaluated by a DOT-qualified SAP
- Minimum 6 follow-up tests in first 12 months
- Follow-up testing can extend up to 60 months
- Strict documentation requirements
Non-DOT Employees
- Requirements based on your company policy
- EAP or treatment program completion may be required
- Follow-up testing schedule is flexible
